This is the third novel in The Throne of glass series after Crown of Midnight. Celaena/Aelin was sent to kill the royal Galathynius family, her cousins in Wendlyn. But fate have something else in mind. She is being escorted to Mistward by a fae warrior to meet Maeve, Aelin's great aunt, Queen of fae. She must learn to control her powers and anger to get answers from Maeve about wyrdkeys.

Rowan is assigned to teach Aelin how to control her magical powers, how to control the fire, her fae instincts. She has to work in kitchen as culinary maid in the morning and later train with Rowan for the rest of the day in some temple ruins. They both hate each other and are ready to throttle each other at any argument (means the whole day)😂.

Rowan is reaching her to shift into her fae form. But as she has never done it before because of the mysterious magic block in her continent, it is quite hard for her to do. She is working with Emrys and Luca in the kitchen in the morning, while Rowan is trying to find the reason of peculiar deaths around the mistwood fortress.

Slowly their hate turns into understanding, then to respect, to trust, to friendship. Rowan took her to a healer's tower to learn about healing and there she got the title 'fire-breathing bitch queen'

On the other hand Dorian and Chaol's life is in chaos. Both are worried about Celaena. Dorian is disturbed that Celaena will get caught by Wendyn's soldiers and die. While Chaol who knows her true identity is anxious about his Kingdom and Crown Prince. Dorian feels alone in the castle without Celaena, so he started visiting a healer named Sorcha and falls in love with her. He accidentally reveals his magic in front of her, but she keeps it a secret and they both tries to learn more about magic together.

General Aedion Ashryver Galathynius,'Wolf of North'arrives in the castle without his army and Dorian is assigned to keep him entertained. Now that Chaol knows Aelin's real identity, he can see the resemblance between her and Aedion (as they are cousins). Chaol suspects that Aedion is lying about his army and is helping the rebels. He follows Aedion from a party and discovers that Aedion indeed is working with the rebels, who kidnapped him last time, but the rebels caught him before he could return to the castle. To save his own life, he told Aedion about Aelin's true identity and about wyrdmarks and wyrdkeys. Dorian discovers everything when Chaol and Aedion were discussing further plans inside the tunnels.

Another character is introduced in this novel. Manon blackbeak, heir of Blackbeak witch coven and leader of famed thirteen. Ironteeth coven is distributed in three different types - Blackbeak, Yellowlegs, and Blueblood. Manon is is ordered to meet at Ferrin gap where whole Ironteeth coven is is being assembled. King of Adarlan gifts wyvern, a flying beast with triangular face and big sharp teeth and claws. Manon named her wyvern Abraxos. Heirs of all covens are getting ready for the war games to win the title of of ring leader.

After hardships and pain, Manon is crowned the title of wing leader of entire Ironteeth coven. Manon passed the test of pain and suffering, but now will she pass the test of care and love?

Mistward is attracted by King's soldiers. Aelin is fighting on frontline, alone against three valg princes. Rowan and his cadre are trying to save as much people as possible. Now Aelin must fulfill her promise to Nehemia and fight for freedom of the world.

Something bad happened with Dorian, Sorcha, Chaol and Aedion in Adarlan. Dorian's secret is out and Aedion is captured by the King. Both are Locked in different types of prisons. What would happen to Chaol in future?
