This is the fifth novel in Throne Of Glass series after Queen of shadows. Aelin Galathynius's life is going to change when she tries to return home, to Terrasen. She is accepted as a princess but not as a Queen because of her past. She promised to return only when she free Erilea.
Dorian is crowned as the king. King with ice running through his veins. Manon is order to attack and conquer Adarlan, but she helps Dorian in fleeing in which she killed two Yellowleg witches to save him. Aelin send Rowan to save Dorian and meet them in Skulls bay. While Rowan and Dorian were escaping the castle, other Yellowleg witches destroyed it without Manon's permission.
Elide Lochan, the girl who escaped Morath is being followed by some unknown creature. She is moving Northward, towards Terrasen to meet her court, her queen. She is carrying a stone and a piece of cloak from Kailtain, which she promised to give to Celaena Sardothien. She doesn't know that Celaena Sardothien and Aelin Galathynius is the same person. Later she discovers that the unknown creature is actually a fae warrior - Lorcan Salvaterre. They made a deal and now they are traveling together towards Aelin Galathynius.
Celaena surprises Rolfe in his cabin while Rowan, Dorian, Fenrys and Gavriel are shocked by meeting Aelin and Celaena together. They discuss their plans and later leaves Skull bay to find the lock. They are attacked by Erawan's Navy and discovers that Maeve is biding her time to capture Aelin.
Manon is ordered to kill her second as her punishment for killing the Yellowleg witches. She disobeys the order and flees with her group but got injured and separated from the rest of the thirteen. She learns a shocking truth about her heritage. Later Abraxos takes Manon, who was barely conscious to Aelin's ship. They finds a chest with a mirror and discovers the past truths about Aelin and Queen Elena.
Maeve captures Aelin when Rowan and Aedion were busy fighting Erawan's soldiers. She is caged in an iron cofin with chains around her body. Iron chains to snuff her magic. She let them cage her to free Elide, to keep her safe from Maeve. Where will her fate take her now? Where will their fate take them now?
